10 Year Anniversary 1996 – 2006
Ten years ago is not a historically significant amount of time, but 1996 marked a few significant events. President Clinton was re-elected to a 2nd term in office, Atlanta was host of the Centennial Olympic games, Braveheart won the motion picture of the year and the Yankees beat the Atlanta Braves in the World Series.
Also in 1996, a group of men met in Woodstock, Georgia at the Eagle Watch Golf Club restaurant, with the intention of establishing the Atlanta Chapter of Les Marmitons. At that first meeting, the guest chef was Jordan Robertson, then Executive Chef of the Hearth Restaurant. That first group of men included: Jim Dorbyk, David Greene, Clent Wix, Joe Maynard, Oscar Vasquez, Alex MacKenzie, and Paul Crevis. J.P.Jobin introduced himself as the International President of Les Marmitons and related to all assembled a brief history of Les Marmitons and provided an overview of the established Chapters in Canada and America. Next, J.P. handed Paul Crevis a plaque to be given to our first guest chef and asked him to sign the plaque. The only place to sign was as the President of the newly established Atlanta, Georgia Chapter. And thus began Paul Crevis’s initiation and tenure as the founding Charter President of the Atlanta, Georgia Chapter of Les Marmitons.
Over the years countless onions have been diced, carrots chopped, fingers cut, pots washed and dishes broken. We have prepared some great dishes and accepted those that were less then great; add to that plenty of laughs and most important many terrific friendships.
In June of 2000, the chapter hosted it first International Event and welcomed over 100 members and guests for an exciting tour of Atlanta and Woodstock Georgia. In 2001 David Greene assumed the role of Chapter President and continued throughout 2002, handing the responsibility to Larry Lodisio in 2003.
Today that small group has developed into an energetic and successful chapter with many of those original members actively participating in the chapter today. It took a considerable amount of dedication and energy from those original members to build the foundation of our local organization. The current Executive Board appreciates those members that have taken an active roll in our latest activities. 2006 marks just 10 short years and with the enthusiastic spirit of the chapter there will be many more to come.
